      • FAQ

How does a cheque-writer protect against cheque fraud?

The cheque-writer imprints the cheque amount right into the cheque paper – the paper in fact becomes embossed with the cheque amount. For example, a cheque for $6,784.51 would actually appear as $6784dol51cts in the line that normally has the amount written out in words. This helps discourage anyone from lifting or altering the monetary value of the cheque.

I have an older cheque-writer, can I still use it?

Absolutely. We have thousands of companies and banks still using our cheque-writers and some of these models have been around for decades. If you are missing parts or need a new ribbon, we can certainly check our stock to see if we have what you need.

What if I need to issue cheques in different currencies?

The Paymaster® 9016-11 is capable of imprinting cheques up to $999,999,999.99 and in the following 10 currencies: CAD, USD, GBP, CHF, JPY, AUD, EUR, HKD, INR, CNY.

What do the new CPA standards mean for my cheque-writer? Can I still use it?

Because of the new CPA – 006 Standard, the actual face of the cheque needs to be captured electronically or scanned so it can be transmitted through the cheque clearing system without issue. Older models of cheque-writers used ribbons and inks that meant the dollar amounts were printed in black and the cents were distinguished with red ribbon imprint or ink. The CPA has approved the use of a cheque-writer – also called a protectograph – provided it does not interfere with certain elements on the front or back of the cheque such as: the MICR encoding line, the date or payee name field on the front and areas such as the endorsement area or teller stamp box on the back.

Where do I find the serial number for my cheque-writer?
